Homeowners who want to make sure they sell their property for as much as possible need to attract a lot of interest in their house.
One of the best ways to do this is by improving curb appeal, as buyers are likely to be put off from making an offer if the property does not look as good as it could.
Remove exterior paint
If your home has a brightly coloured exterior, it could be worth getting this removed, as people may be deterred from looking inside a fuschia pink or lime green house.
Tidy the garden
It sounds simple, but having a tidy garden can make a big difference to potential buyers.
You don’t have to be Alan Titchmarsh to increase interest in the house though. Simply mow the grass, plant a few flowers on the borders or in hanging baskets near the door, and trim any bushes or trees.
If the garden is unruly, homebuyers might be deterred, thinking it would be a lot of work to maintain it.
Revamp doors and windows
It might feel like a lot of effort to go to, but updating your doors and windows could make the house look much more attractive.
Make sure the windows are clean, paint the windows if the paint is flaking, and even paint, or replace, the front door.
Over the last year, house prices have dropped by the highest amount since 2009 (4.6 per cent), so most vendors will want to do everything they can to prevent losing out on even more money – and making the front entrance look good could be one of them.
If you are going to repaint the door, choose a traditional colour, such as black, navy, red or green, as you don’t want to put people off with something too bright.
